PUDUCHERRY: The
Puducherry administration has braced up for heavy rainfall after the Met department issued a heavy rainfall warning over the region till November 19.
The Met department said a low pressure formed over
North Andaman Sea may concentrate into a depression by November 17 and cross south Andhra Pradesh coast on November 18 leading to heavy rainfall in Puducherry and
Tamil Nadu.
In a release, Puducherry district collector
Purva Garg said the administration had directed all emergency support functionaries and officials of line departments to extend full assistance to the public in distress.
In case of any eventualities, Garg advised the public to contact the control room with toll free numbers - 1031 (communication, law & order and crime-related), 112 (emergency response support system), 1073 (traffic-related complaints), 1091 (women complaints), 1093 (coastal police emergency assistance), 1070 (natural calamities like flood/cyclone rescue complaints), 1912 (restoration of power supply), 108 (medical emergencies & ambulance), 104 (Covid-19 helpline), 101 (fire-related/search and rescue) and 1554 (maritime rescue sub-coordination centre, coast guard).
She said the Puducherry region has received a total of 632mm of rainfall since the onset of the
northeast monsoon from October 26. So far, Puducherry region has received 1,863mm of rainfall this year as against the normal rainfall of 1,380mm.
