Chris Christie says independents who backed Biden have 'buyer's remorse' and are 'very angry' because he has 'governed like he's left of FDR'

Former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie said Tuesday that he believed independents who voted for President Joe Biden are now having 'buyer's remorse' because they believe the president has moved too far to the left.
'Joe Biden said he's going to be a uniter. He's going to moderate the country, bring it together,' Christie said on Fox & Friends. 'He's governed like he's left of FDR and independents who voted for him last November really have buyer's remorse now, and they've very angry.'
Christie said the election results in Virginia and New Jersey earlier this month bear out his theory.
Virginia voters had chosen Biden over former President Donald Trump by 10 points, only to elect GOP gubernatorial hopeful Glenn Youngkin a year later. In New Jersey, Democratic incumbent Gov. Phil Murphy won by much tighter than expected 3.2 points over Republican challenger Jack Ciattarelli.
An October Gallup poll showed Biden losing support from independents by 21 points since June.

Biden ran to the center of progressives like Sens. Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren during the 2020 Democratic primary - though his Build Back Better reconciliation bill, which still needs to be passed by Congress, incorporates social spending programs that the left-wing of his party supports.
Christie is making the rounds to promote his new book, Republican Rescue: Saving the Party from Truth Deniers, Conspiracy Theorists, and the Dangerous Policies of Joe Biden, which came out Tuesday.
On Fox, he said he remained 'friends' with former President Donald Trump - despite the two not speaking since before the January 6 Capitol attack.
'Look, we're still friends and we're always going to be friends. And the friendship we've always had is the friendship of peers, where you tell each other the truth,' Christie said.
Trump was reportedly irritated that Christie refused to push the so-called 'big lie,' and instead stated that Trump lost the election to Biden.
'Friends tell each other the truth,' Christie continued. 'And all I'm saying in this book is, we have to stop looking backward, if we want to be a winning party again we gotta look forward and go after Joe Biden, we should not be attacking other Republicans.'
Trump has gone after a number of prominent Republicans since leaving office including Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell.
He's endorsed primary challengers to those who voted in favor of his second impeachment, leading some GOP lawmakers to retire.
In the book, Christie also goes after the fringe elements of the Republican Party.
Describing it to Doocy Tuesday he said, 'things like QAnon and pizzagate and birtherism.'
Before running for president, Trump was one of the most prominent Americans who pushed the birther conspiracy theory - that former President Barack Obama, the country's first black president, was secretly born in Kenya and not Hawaii.
Obama was born in Hawaii.
'There were all conspiracy theories and things that are just untrue that take our party off course,' Christie said.
'We don't have to talk about that stuff, we should be talking about Joe Biden and six per cent inflation, Joe Biden and the way he disgraced us in Afghanistan, Joe Biden and the way we're seeing our country being embarrassed around the world and our people at home being taught things in our schools that make us not proud to be Americans,' the former New Jersey governor encouraged.
'If Republicans talk about that, we're going to win the House and the Senate, and then win the White House in '24,' he continued. 'If we talk about all this other garbage, people are going to think we're not fit to serve.'
Doocy then asked Christie if he planned to jump into the next White House race.
Christie briefly ran for the Republican nomination in 2016. He dropped out after a disappointing finish in the New Hampshire primary and put his weight behind Trump.
'No, not at the moment, but I'll say this, I'm thinking about it,' he said of a 2024 White House run. 'And at the end of '22 we'll make a decision.'
He said it was 'not smart' to try to predict what the next presidential race will look like before next year's midterms.
'So you see where you are, where your family is and then you make a decision,' Christie said.
