AGARTALA: Two women journalists booked by Tripura police for allegedly conspiring to misrepresent facts while reporting on communal friction in Tripura got bail on Monday, a day after both were detained in Assam on the charge of dodging summons to record their statements in a case filed against them.
Sammriddhi K Sakunia and Swarna Jha said they travelled to Tripura from Delhi on a reporting assignment. Both were asked to visit Kakraban police station in Gomati district on Tuesday in connection with the probe into a complaint alleging that they instigated minorities and compelled them to make statements accusing VHP activists of setting a mosque ablaze.
Their counsel said police took them into custody “with malicious intention to suppress independent voices”.
