Retail and banking stocks rose 0.5 per cent and 0.7 per cent, respectively.

NEW DELHI: Power shares closed lower in the Tuesday's session.

Voltamp Transformers(up 6.82%), NHPC(up 6.60%), NTL(up 5.00%), Orient Green Power Company(up 4.92%), Energy Development Company(up 4.80%), Indowind Energy(up 4.76%), Inox wind(up 4.70%), Jaiprakash Power Ventures(up 4.65%), KEC International(up 3.65%) and K.P.I. Global Infras(up 3.48%) stood among the top gainers.

Jyoti Structures(down 4.24%), Adani Transmissions(down 2.99%), Alstom T&D India(down 2.64%), NLC India(down 2.35%), NTPC(down 2.08%), PTC India(down 1.34%), Indo Tech Transformers(down 1.04%), CESC(down 0.72%), Gujarat Industries Power(down 0.69%) and DPSC(down 0.64%) were among the top losers of the day.

The NSE Nifty50 index ended 110.25 points down at 17999.2, while the 30-share BSE Sensex closed down 396.34 points at 60322.37.

Maruti Suzuki(up 7.29%), Mahindra & Mahindra(up 3.44%), Tata Motors(up 2.69%), Hero MotoCorp(up 2.14%), Tech Mahindra(up 1.31%), Eicher Motors(up 0.97%), JSW Steel(up 0.51%), Bajaj Finserv(up 0.44%), Larsen & Toubro(up 0.42%) and Wipro(up 0.39%) stood among the top gainers in the Nifty pack.

On the other hand, Shree Cement(down 3.23%), Reliance Industries(down 2.32%), State Bank of India(down 2.26%), Hindalco Industries(down 2.26%), TATA CONSUMER PRODUCTS(down 2.25%), UltraTech Cement(down 2.09%), NTPC(down 2.08%), IndusInd Bank(down 1.98%), Grasim Industries(down 1.76%) and Cipla(down 1.75%) closed in the red.
