GURUGRAM: Chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar on Saturday approved automobile giant Maruti’s plan to set up its third manufacturing plant in the state. In the city to preside over a meeting of the Haryana Enterprises Promotion Center, Khattar announced that the plan had been finalised during ongoing talks with Maruti to set up the plant on around 900 acres of land at Kharkhoda in Sonipat district.
“This has been discussed in detail with the senior management of the company. If the company deposits the entire amount within 45 days, then it will be given a 10% discount on the total amount as per the policy,” said the CM. “Along with this, the company has been given SGST reimbursement for 15 years by the government. Setting up of a new plant in Kharkhoda will further increase Maruti’s production, which will give a boost to the auto industry in the state,” he added.
Talking to TOI, deputy chief minister Dushyant Chautala, who holds the industries portfolio, called it a historic day for Haryana. “It is a big achievement for Haryana that Maruti will be setting up its third plant in the state, with an investment of about Rs 18,000 crore. Out of the 900 acres, 800 will be used by Maruti to make cars, while the remaining 100 acres will be used by Suzuki to set up its motorcycle plant. We expect that this plant, along with other ancillary units, will generate around 1 lakh direct and indirect jobs in the state. The location is right on the Kundli-Manesar-Palwal (KMP) expressway and more such investments will come by after this announcement,” said Chautala.
“It will take around two and a half years for the plant to be set up and operations will begin by the third year. I don’t think there will be any delay in this matter. Maruti itself is quite keen to start this plant at the earliest as it wants to shift the Gurugram plant from its present location because the area is very congested now and is almost in the middle of the city,” the deputy CM said.
Maruti refused to comment on the announcement.
Apart from approving the Maruti plant, Khattar on Saturday approved a proposal by the Aditya Birla Group to set up a Grasim paint manufacturing facility on 70 acres of land in Panipat. “Earlier, the plan was to set up this plant in Rohtak, but due to some reasons, they now want to set up this plant in Panipat. We have started talks regarding another project for construction of railway parts which will be set up in Rohtak,” said Khattar.
