CHENNAI: Continuing his tirade against the DMK government, AIADMK joint coordinator Edappadi K Palaniswami on Saturday said the government failed to take preventive measures to mitigate the effect of monsoon, which resulted in several areas getting inundated, posing threats of water contamination and spread of communicable diseases.
He demanded that the government extend compensation of 30,000 per hectare for crop loss to the farmers and release of early compensation under PM's crop insurance scheme.
After visiting some rain-affected areas, he told at Poonamallee that his government used to plan well ahead of monsoon. Now, the DMK government's lack of competence had come to the fore, he said. "We see that storm water has not receded even after eight days. Here in Panayathamman Nagar, water was drained out after the authorities came to know of my visit. Even medical camps have not been organised in the area though announcement was made about it," EPS said, taking a dig at the ruling party for calling Stalin, "super CM". Accusing Stalin of making false allegations against the AIADMK on poor drain network, Palaniswami said several hundred crores worth works were implemented by the previous AIADMK regime to strengthen water bodies in Chennai and its suburbs.
