Thoubal, November 13 2021: For the first time in the judicial history of Manipur, the Supreme Court has summoned the Governor in connection with the disqualification case of 12 parliamentary secretaries.
This is not only highly humiliating to a respectful post, empowered by the Constitution of India but also puts the state in poor light, said Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) acting president and Wangkhem AC MLA Keisham Meghachandra.
He was speaking to newspersons on the sidelines of an inaugural function of a Brick-paved Road at Charangpat in Thoubal District on Saturday.
Stating that the Supreme Court summoning the Governor's office for disrespecting and violating the Constitution, in addition to issuing directions for submission of reports, is a first in the judicial history; Meghachandra recalled that the Election Commission of India (ECI) had submitted a report to the Governor of Manipur in this regard on January 21.It is unfortunate to have the Governor conceal this from the people, he said, while contending that the state government is not respecting the Constitution of India.
"It was only after MLAs DD Thaisii and O Surjakumar hied a case in the Supreme Court in this respect, that the matter was heard.
The apex Court had already rebuked the Governor for hiding the ECI's report, to which the Governor's office said that it will produce the report in the Court and requested the Supreme Court not to issue direction for producing the said report.
Thus, the Governor will surely produce the report soon," Meghachandra conveyed.
He then remarked that regardless of who forms the government, the citizens and all political parties must respect the Constitution.
