arrested a gang of eight
drug peddlers who had come to Goa from Mumbai “to conduct illicit trade”, PI Jivba Dalvi said. The arrests were made after police received credible information that a gang of drug peddlers from Mumbai was operative in the jungle around Sweet Lake in
Arambol.
Arambol beach is visited by both domestic and foreign tourists. “After a tip-off, some cops posed as prospective customers to establish contact with the peddlers. Their location was confirmed. Eight were found staying in a resort,” Dalvi said.
“A thorough search was conducted, and they were found to be in alleged possession of various types of drugs, and were supplying drugs to tourists. The drugs worth Rs Rs 1.2 lakh were seized from them,” he said.
Alex Romeo, 25 Jeffrey Rodrigues, 24, Sagar Jadhav, 21, Adrian Kingston , 21, Rohit Zende, 20, Rushikesh Mahadik, 21, Vaibhav Shigwan, 21, and Prem Londhe, 19 have been arrested.
The police team was headed by Dalvi, while PSIs Praful Giri and Harish Vaigunkar, head constables Uday Gosavi, Arjun Kalangutkar, Swapnil Shirodkar, Vinod Pednekar, and Bhaskar Chari assisted.
