Career school Helms College has announced a new program for job-seekers who like to skip ahead to dessert.

A new diploma in Baking and Pastry Arts is scheduled to launch in January. The 44-week program will put students to work in the classroom and on the job in the different venues of Edgar’s Hospitality Group – Edgar’s Grille, Edgars Bakehouse, the Snelling Conference Center, the Pinnacle Club and Edgar’s Above Broad.

The Bakehouse, formerly the college’s Hire Grounds coffeehouse, opened earlier this year. It's now the new domain of executive pastry chef Michael Romano, a champion on the Food Network show "Sweet Genius" and the former executive pastry chef at The Pierre, a five-star New York City hotel.

Students also will have the chance to earn up to five certifications from the National Restaurant Association, and prepare for the Certified Fundamentals Pastry Cook certification from the American Culinary Federation after graduation.
