
Chief Justice of India, N V Ramana, told Centre that air pollution is a serious situation and masks are being worn at home also.
The observations came while hearing a plea on worsening air quality in the national capital.
On stubble burning as one of the reasons behind pollution, the top court said that it's become a fashion to bash farmers and asked what happened with the fire cracker ban.
The apex court has posted the matter for hearing on November 15 and has asked the Centre on steps being taken to tackle air pollution.
It also pulled up the Delhi government for opening schools due to which children will get exposed to pollutants.
Delhi's air quality worsened and was recorded in severe category on Saturday.
The System of Air Quality and Weather Forecasting And Research (SAFAR), informed that the air quality index in the city is at 499 thereby being in the 'severe category.'
In Delhi's Lodhi Road area AQI was reported at 476, at IIT Delhi area AQI was at 479 and in the Delhi university's north campus area AQI was at 578 today.
According to the government agencies, AQI between 0-50 is considered good, 51-100 is satisfactory, 101-200 moderate, 201-300 poor, 301-400 very poor and 401-500 are marked as severe/hazardous.
