Skoda To Launch The All-Electric Skoda Enyaq In India

Skoda Auto has planned to launch the all-electric Skoda Enyaq in India. Apart from that, Skoda Auto India has solid plans to manufacture electric cars in India.

Skoda Enyaq has already been a tremendous success across Europe and Skoda Auto is planning to replicate the success in India by launching a few variants of the highly praised Skoda Enyaq in the country.

The news was confirmed by Thomas Schafer, Chairman of the Board of Skoda Auto while speaking to ET Auto. He said, "At the moment, the team in India is looking at the options. They'll bring in next year probably a few Enyaqs to try it on the ground. The car has been super successful in Europe; we believe this can also work in India."

"Our factory planning team on both sides in India and HQ are continuously working to strengthen our capacity (production). We've built the factory for higher capacity. If there is an investment plan for the future, it's better in India than in many places around the world. We see India as a focal point," he added.

Speaking about the Skoda Enyaq, the all-electric SUV from the Czech manufacturer is based on the Volkswagen Group's MEB platform, which also happens to underpin other electric vehicles such as Volkswagen iD.3, Audi Q4 e-tron, and Volkswagen iD.4.

For the design of the Skoda Enyaq, the designers chose to go for a more conventional-looking design rather than a futuristic approach to make the car look like it is from the future.

The interior also looks like any other Skoda with a neatly laid dashboard, and like all modern cars, the interior of the Skoda Enyaq is dominated by a huge 13'' touch screen infotainment unit.

However, the driver's display screen is a small 5-inch unit that looks like it has been predominantly designed for quick glance of the information.

The Skoda Enyaq is available with 5 powertrain options. Moreover, there are both RWD and AWD configurations available in various guises of power to suit different requirements.

The long-range version of the Skoda Enyaq comes with a mammoth 82 kWh battery pack and this variant could potentially cover up to 510 kms on a single charge. However, it is available in rear-wheel-drive guise only.

The sportier RS variant of the Skoda Enyaq pushes out 302 bhp and 460 Nm of torque, and this variant is capable of catapulting itself from a standstill to 100 kph in just 6.2 seconds.

Apart from that, the Skoda Enyaq can charge from 5% to 80% in just 30 min with a suitable 125 kW fast charger. However, from a regular AC output charger, the Skoda Enyaq could take up to 8 hours of time depending on the variant's battery capacity.

Like all Skoda's, the Skoda Enyaq also scores top marks in practicality with a carnivorous 585-litres of boot space.

Thoughts About Skoda Enyaq

We expect Skoda Auto to launch the Enyaq with the smaller 50 and 62 kWh battery packs initially to keep the price attractive. However, if Skoda plans to launch the Skoda Enyaq as a CBU-unit, expect Skoda to bring in the sportier RS variant along with the long-range variant.
