BHUBANESWAR: As many as 5,544 PG seats have been lying vacant in different state public universities and degree colleges across the state after the completion of the second round of admission. Spot admission process is expected to start from November 17 for filling up of vacant seats.
The state has a total of 14,968 PG seats in 59 degree colleges and 14 state public universities. As many as 9,424 seats have been filled up during first and second round admission. "We are trying to start the spot admission process for PG courses from November 17. The higher education department will issue guidelines for spot admission after a few days," said a department official.
The admission process is monitored by the Odisha State Higher Education Council (OSHEC). It has conducted first round admission between October 23 and 28. Similarly, second round admission was conducted between November 5 and 9.
Around 53,000 students had appeared for the common PG entrance test (CPET)-2021 between August 23 and September 3 for admission in PG courses. Though 52,639 students had paid the fees, only 37,492 have been considered for selection against the intake capacity of 14,968 PG seats in 73 institutions.
Universities have 8,410 PG seats, while colleges have an intake capacity of 6,590. The students who failed to get seats in the first and second round admissions can take part in the spot admission and try to get a PG seat in any of the institutions, said an OSHEC member.
