SA navigate new ball as Shield draw looms

South Australian openers Jake Weatherald and Henry Hunt have grafted to lunch as their rain-hit Sheffield Shield match against Tasmania heads towards a draw.

The covers came on at Bellerive Oval shortly after midday (AEDT) on Saturday with the Redbacks 0-32 in their second innings, trailing by 30 runs.

Coming off 134 in the first dig, 24-year-old Hunt (15 not out) successfully navigated the new ball alongside Weatherald (16 not).

Hunt put his name forward as an Ashes squad bolter on day two with a gritty century - his second of the season and fifth from 20 first-class matches.

The Tigers were bowled out for 282 in their first innings after an hour of play on day four, with Jordan Silk the last batter out for 58.

He shared an 86-run stand with evergreen veteran Peter Siddle (30) after the pair resumed at 8-220.

Rain wiped out a big chunk of play on Friday afternoon, as well as most of day one.

Siddle was out stumped of the part-time off-spin of SA skipper Travis Head (2-22), who missed out with 14 in his side's first dig of 220.

SA quicks Daniel Worrall, Nathan McAndrew and Liam Scott picked up two wickets each. Silk was out caught at long on slogging David Grant.
