Magnitude 5.3 quake hits Western Australia
A magnitude 5.3 earthquake has rattled Western Australia's Pilbara region, seismologists say.
Geoscience Australia said the quake struck at 9.05pm WST on Saturday near the town of Marble Bar at a depth of 10km.
It said the tremor had been reported as being felt in Port Hedland and Karratha.
Several apparent aftershocks, of magnitude 2.6, 3.1 and 3.2, were recorded within two hours of the initial earthquake.
The Joint Australian Tsunami Warning Centre said there was no risk of a tsunami to the Australian mainland or surrounding islands or territories from the earthquake.
