Hyderabad: Kangana Ranaut is praised for her powerful performances and made a name for herself despite being from a small town. But in recent years, she has been more in the news for her controversial statements.
Time and time again, the outspoken Bollywood actress got involved in Twitter chats, made shocking allegations and statements, raised her voice, shared her opinion on things and topics she believes she should talk about.
From her recent statement on India’s heavily acquired freedom of British colonial rule, comparison of Mumbai with Pakistan and of problems with filmmaker Karan Johar and superstar Hrithik Roshan, Ranaut is no stranger to controversy.
Here are her biggest controversies:
‘The freedom we were given in 1947 was a’ bheek ‘
She sparked a new controversy at the Times Now summit in 2021 when the Queen actress said that ‘the freedom we were given in 1947 was a’ bheek ‘, the citizens of India were given real freedom in 2014.’ An outspoken supporter of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, she referred to his victory in the 2014 general election. Critics said her remarks offended India’s freedom fighters.
‘Relationship’ with Hrithik Roshan
In 2013, Ranaut claimed that Hrithik and she were in a relationship when they shot Krrish. However, he categorically denied it. The duo gave several interviews to prove their side of the story.
Call protesting farmers “terrorists”
At a time when farmers were protesting over the three farm laws approved by the Union government, Barbados singer Rihanna questioned the lack of media coverage of the issue. In response to her tweet, Ranaut said the protesters were not farmers but “terrorists trying to divide the country”.
Compare Mumbai with Pakistan
In 2020, the actress said she feared the Mumbai police more than the film mafia and compared Mumbai to Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK). This led to a political maelstrom involving Prime Minister Uddhav Thackeray. Amid this controversy, a municipal crew paid a surprise visit to Kangana’s production house and issued her a notice for illegal construction. They even performed a demolition ride. Later, however, the High Court in Bombay ordered that BMC’s move be stopped.
‘Sushant Singh Rajput killed’
After Sushant’s death, Ranaut claimed that the actor was killed because he knew “some dirty secrets”.
Accuses Karan Johar of nepotism
It all started in 2010 when she first appeared on filmmaker Karan Johar’s television chat show Koffee with Karan. There she said that Karan is the ‘flag bearer of nepotism’. This sparked a major debate. Since then, her feud with Karan has continued.
Drug test
The actress had earlier claimed in a tweet that almost all of Bollywood was involved in drug use. She wanted all the top stars to take a drug test.
‘B-grade actresses’ and’ mafia bimbo’s
In one of her interviews, Ranaut referred to the actors Swara Bhaskar and Taapsee Pannu as ‘B-grade actresses’. In another case, she pursued actresses Sonam and Dia, calling them “mafia bimbos”. Light drizzle in parts of the city
