Are you left brained or right brained?

A human brain is capable of a lot of things. It is what controls are actions, reflexes, things we say and much more than you can imagine. It is the home of all bodily functions and pretty much everything that controls and defines our personality. Scientifically, our brain is divided into two halves, each with distinct roles and capabilities. While both the hemispheres have different functions, they are completely dependent on one another.
However, theory has it that people may be right brained or left brained, depending on certain characteristics they hold. It is believed that everyone possesses a dominant side of the brain that helps regulate one's thoughts, actions, gestures and behaviour.

The theory behind left-brain or right-brain dominance or is it just a myth?
As per the right brain left brain theory, which first originated in the work of Nobel Prize winner Roger W. Sperry, each part of the brain is associated with different types of thinking. Depending on the side of the brain that is more dominant, people are said to prefer one type of thinking. That means, if a person is left-brained they're said to be more logical, pragmatic and objective. On the other hand, right-brained people are usually associated with creativity and thoughtfulness.

Scientifically though, while the brain is in fact divided into two hemispheres, both are interconnected and dependent on one another. The left side of the brain controls the muscles on the right and vice versa, which is why, if one side of the brain is damaged, the other is likely to suffer too.

Most researchers believe that the theory itself is a myth, that only with the combined, healthy functioning of both sides of the brain, can people achieve their full potential. However, the theory still continues to persist widely.

Characteristics of a right-brained person

As per the left-brain, right-brain dominance theory, right brained people are thoughtful and conscious of their actions and emotions. Apart from that, the following are some of the characteristics associated with the right brain.

Or are you left-brained?

Left brained people are more analytical, objective and practical. They're very particular about their work and ace at activities that involve reasoning and rationality. Other than that, here are some characteristics that define a left-brained person.
