Hyderabad: The Task Force along with the Golconda police on Friday busted an online cricket betting racket and arrested one person, from whom Rs1.5 lakh was seized and Rs 3.9 lakh was frozen in bank accounts.
The arrested person, Mohd Asghar (36), was a steel material trader from Balreddy Nagar Colony in Tolichowki while two other suspects, Bajighar from Dubai and Prathyush from Gujarat, are absconding.
According to the Task Force, Asghar resorted to online cricket betting, for which he purchased an online application, Fairbook.io, from Bajighar. He later handed over the online cricket application to another bookie, Prathyush, on a commission basis. Prathyush continued his online cricket betting from punters illegally, police said, adding that Asghar was monitoring the daily transactions, which were through e-wallets, linked to various bank accounts.
Following a tip-off, the Task Force and Golconda police raided a gaming house and nabbed Asghar. He was handed over to the Golconda police for further action.
