The NSE Nifty index ended the session 229.15 points up at 18102.75, while BSE Sensex rose 767.0 points to 60686.69.
In the Nifty index, Tech Mahindra Ltd.(up 4.14 per cent), Hindalco Industries Ltd.(up 3.22 per cent), Housing Development Finance Corporation Ltd.(up 2.88 per cent), Wipro Ltd.(up 2.84 per cent) and Infosys Ltd.(up 2.71 per cent) stood among the top gainers.
On the other hand, Bajaj Auto Ltd.(down 3.06 per cent), Tata Steel Ltd.(down 0.95 per cent), Hero MotoCorp Ltd.(down 0.66 per cent), Axis Bank Ltd.(down 0.27 per cent) and Indian Oil Corporation Ltd.(down 0.26 per cent) were among the top losers of the day.
