Doctors Sachinder Jain alias Naval and J P Joshi, the STF sleuths said on Thursday, had allegedly provided details of the cash and its location to a criminal.
GURUGRAM: Two city-based doctors have been arrested by the Haryana Police’s special task force (STF) in connection with a Rs 4-crore theft from a residential society in Sector 82 on August 4. A sub-inspector of the Delhi Police’s special cell and three others were earlier arrested in connection with the crime.
Doctors Sachinder Jain alias Naval and J P Joshi, the STF sleuths said on Thursday, had allegedly provided details of the cash and its location to a criminal, Vikas Langharpuria, who subsequently hatched the conspiracy and sent eight of his men to steal the money from Gurgaon One society’s maintenance office.
The heist, police said, had come to light only on August 20 when an employee of the maintenance company went to the office to collect the sum for depositing the same at a bank. On scanning the CCTV camera footage, it was found that the money had been stolen. A case was registered at Khedki Daula police station on August 21 on the complaint of Alpha Corp Management Service Private Limited, the company which manages the Gurgaon One project, under IPC Section 380 (theft).
The developer also submitted a complaint with the director general of police (DGP), following which the case was handed over to the STF. While police had earlier said that the criminals took Rs 50 lakh from the maintenance office, later the stolen sum was estimated to be around Rs 4 crore.
“We arrested the two doctors on Wednesday and have now taken them in remand. We are trying to get more details about the case and their connection with the gangster,” a senior STF officer said, adding that the duo practised at a private hospital.
So far, six persons have been arrested in connection with the case. Three persons, identified as Dhare, Amit alias Mite, both from Najafgarh in New Delhi, and Abhinav from Uttar Pradesh, were the first to be picked up in the case. During the course of the investigation, the three men had told cops that gangster Langharpuria was the mastermind behind the heist and had provided them with all information. The three accused had also claimed that the gangster had asked them to pay Rs 15 lakh as kickback to ASI Vikash Gulia of the Delhi Police’s special cell from the stolen money.
On October 8, the Gurgaon police crime unit had arrested the ASI in connection with the theft while he was taking a course at the police training centre after his recent promotion. Police said that Langharpuria and the ASI hailed from the same village in Badli area of Haryana and were acquainted. Following the arrest of the ASI and during further interrogation of the four men, the STF got to know about the involvement of the two doctors in the case.
Meanwhile, police said, around 30 cases were registered against Dhare, 10 cases against Amit, and two against Abhinav.
