Bihar: 33 drowned in separate incidents during Chhath festival

As many as 33 people drowned during Chhath celebrations in different parts of Bihar, a disaster management official said on Friday.

Rohtas, Saran, Gaya and Siwan districts each recorded two deaths on Thursday, while Biharsharif and Buxar districts each registered one. Three people met their water grave in the Begusarai district.

While four people drowned in Samastipur, one died in Bettiah.

Four deaths each were recorded in Saharsa and Khagaria, while two deaths each occurred in Supaul and Lakhisarai.

Madhepura, Purnea and Bhagalpur districts each recorded one death.

The tragedy occurred when the devotees dived into “second Argha” in rivers, dams and canals to celebrate the festival.

Meanwhile, the family members of the deceased district administration blamed for the failure to earmark dangerous ghats that led to accidents.

In Begusarai, mobs set fire to two district police vehicles and also threw stones at the police team. Similar scenes have also been seen in other districts.
