PM Narendra Modi told me not to worry about bitcoin charges: Karnataka CM Basavaraj Bommai

BENGALURU: Amid the furore over the alleged bitcoin scam in Karnataka, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday reportedly advised chief minister Basavaraj Bommai not to be perturbed by speculation around it and focus on development.
Bommai said the advice came during the meeting in Delhi on Thursday. “The bitcoin issue did not come up for discussion. When I tried to broach the topic, he said not to worry and asked me to work with loyalty and boldness in the interest of the people,” Bommai told reporters.
The meeting took place after an anonymous letter addressed to the Prime Minister, alleging the involvement of several political leaders and officials in the scam, surfaced and the Congress claimed the state would see a third chief minister soon had triggered speculation that Modi may seek an explanation from Bommai.
On BJP’s defeat in the recent Hangal bypolls, Bommai said the PM told him that winning and losing in elections was common and he (PM) stressed that gaining people’s confidence and delivering good governance were more important.
Bommai, on a two-day visit to Delhi, met Modi for 30 minutes at his Lok Kalyan Marg residence and apprised him about his performance over the past 100 days after taking over on July 28.

Bommai said Modi asked him to effectively implement the recently launched state education scholarship scheme for farmers’ children so that it could be replicated across the country. In September, the government launched this scheme for these children to pursue class 11 and 12 as well as higher education.
Modi reportedly appreciated the state government for bringing in transparency in the public tendering process and said it should be implemented in every department. The cabinet recently decided to subject tenders costing Rs 50 crore and above to scrutiny by an independent panel.
