When it comes to making random comments that hardly make any sense, Kangana Ranaut is the first one that comes to my mind. I mean, we all know about the controversial opinions she has on almost any and everything. While netizens have trolled her for it, time and again, this time her comments got her an FIR. Yep, Bollywood actress Kangana Ranaut recently made a comment on how India got its real freedom in 2014 while the 1947 one was a “bheek” (alms). Sigh. Needless to say, people were not happy. A complaint was filed against her for making such seditious remarks on India’s freedom movement.
Kangana Ranaut was recently at a conclave as a guest speaker where she commented on India’s freedom movement. While talking about the freedom movement, Kangana went on to talk about how the Congress party was an extension of British rule and that India got its “real freedom” in 2014 (the time when BJP rose to power). She even said that what India got in 1947 was just ‘bheek’ (alms).
Surprise surprise. The Thalaivi actress’ comment did not sit well with many, following which Preethi Menon, the National executive chairman of the Aam Aadmi Party, filed a complaint against Kangana Ranaut with the Mumbai police. In fact, even a member of the Congress party, Gaurav Pandhi, took to Twitter and tweeted, “The RSS could never accept the fact that their British masters were forced to leave in 1947. Their slavery knew no bounds. No wonder they didn’t hoist the tricolour for half a century. The return of slavery in 2014 was their ‘independence’. Kangana Ranaut is just one of them.”
Submitted an application to @MumbaiPolice requesting action on Kangana Ranaut for her seditious and inflammatory statements on @TimesNow, under sections 504, 505 and 124A.

As per reports, even BJP MP Varun Gandhi took to Twitter to ask whether the comment was madness or treason. In his tweet, he wrote, “Insulting the sacrifice of Mahatma Gandhi sometimes, respecting his killer sometimes, and now the disdain for the sacrifices of Mangal Pandey, Rani Laxmibai, Bhagat Singh, Chandrashekhar Azad, Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose and lakhs of freedom fighters. Should I call this thinking madness or treason?” Shiv Sena leader Priyanka Chaturvedi also went ahead and termed Kangana Ranaut as one of the “WhatsApp history fans” in her tweet.

The new Ruchi Pathak on the block. From 99 year lease to bheek main mili azaadi. All the blood, sweat and balidan of our freedom fighters including Jhansi ki Rani dismissed to please the master. The WhatsApp history fans. pic.twitter.com/LdFCt9lCoR

To be honest, and despite the obvious political connotations of this entire debate, I get the anger that was expressed on her comment. I mean, Kangana Ranaut did disregard the sacrifices made by thousands of Indians back in 1947 to get the freedom that we enjoy today. Supporting a political party is one thing and stating that they’re the ones who gave freedom to us in 2014, is another ball game altogether. Why ruffle feathers on purpose?
