Paediatrician Kafeel Khan of Gorakhpur's BRD Medical College and Hospital, who was sacked after being found guilty in a probe into the death of more than 60 children due to oxygen shortage, said he will now approach the court over the matter.

"I was informed through the media that I have been removed from the post...I will approach court...I have been given a clean chit in nine inquiries," Kafeel Khan told India Today TV on Friday.

"People might think that I will join politics someday ahead of the Uttar Pradesh elections... but for now, I am fighting for those families whose children died in Gorakhpur due to lack of oxygen," Kafeel Khan said.

Dr Khan, who spent eight months in jail, was sacked following a tragedy at Gorakhpur's BRD Medical College, where more than 60 had died in August 2017 due to an alleged shortage of oxygen.

Reacting to the report of Dr Khan's dismissal, Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra termed his dismissal malice-driven and aimed at harassing him.
