Imphal, November 11 2021: Manipur LoumiLup has accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of continuing to torment the farmers, while pretending to care about them.
In a statement released by its secretary, Loumi Lup recounted that that the apex farmers' body, Samyukta Kisan Morcha, launched a protest last year against the three anti-farm bills passed by the parliament.
During the course of the protest, around 750 farmers lost their lives.
However, PM Modi is yet to offer any condolences.
Loumi Lup is surprised over Modi's BJP lack of knowledge of the 'Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan' slogan of former PM Lai Bahadur Shastri.
Governments of different political parties may come and go, but what remain unchanged are'the respective roles played by the farmers and the brave soldiers in the sustenance and defence of the country.
"After the Modi-led government tried to implement the three farm laws to cater to the wishes ofisome corporate houses, the Supreme Court of India stayed the same for two years.
However, with the end of harvest of Kharif crops, some private corporate bodies have been procuring the yield from the farmers or Haryana and Punjab at cheap prices and then transporting them to states like Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Assam and Manipur, wherein the yields are, sold at high prices.
"On top of this, the famous apples of Himachal Pradesh, which are sold at Rs 100 per kg by the farmers, are now being sold in the market at Rs 80 per kg by Modi's corporate friend Gautam Adani.
The price difference is a means of suppressing the farmers, the three anti-farm bills being the cause.
Thus, Manipur Loumi Lup will continue to support the protest by Samyukta Kisan Morcha until the three anti-farm bills are withdrawn", it stated.
