Schools, colleges unable to reopen despite Govt order

Imphal, November 10 2021: Although the Higher and Technical Education Department had issued instructions for reopening schools and colleges for students of Class IX and above, many of the schools and colleges in the state are unable to start classes due to paucity of time for making the necessary arrangements.
After a prolonged closure of educational institutions owing to the Covid-19 pandemic, the Education Department issued an office memorandum on Tuesday for reopening schools and colleges with strict adherence to the protocols laid down.by the Health Department.
On Wednesday, a meeting of the authorities of different schools and colleges in the state was convened to discuss the issue even as some of the schools and colleges came up with own notices for reopening within a week.
Amidst this, TG Higher Secondary School would not be able to reopen for the time being as a Covid-19 testing centre is currently operating in the school.
Speaking to The People's Chronicle in this regard, TG Higher Secondary School principal Ayekpam Sangita conveyed that the school has been already conducting online classes, by forming WhatsApp groups for the same.
On Wednesday, a meeting was held with the teachers to discuss the reopening of the school as per the government's order.
However, as a Covid-19 testing centre is currently set up in the school, physical classes cannot commence until the centre is shifted elsewhere.
Thus, she urged the authorities concerned to look into the matter, while informing that the school has made preparations to hold physical classes in morning and afternoon shifts.
