Somnath temple in
Gir Somnath district, one of the twelve Jyotirlinga of
Lord Shiva, witnessed a heavy rush of devotees during the Diwali vacation.
According to temple trust, in 10 days of Diwali, 51.67 lakh people on Facebook, 22.26 lakh people on Twitter, 34.46 lakh people on YouTube, and 27 lakh people on Instagram offered the prayer. Whereas, three lakh people visited the temple in ten days.
From November 1 to November 9, the temple received an income of Rs 1.35 crore. The average monthly income of the temple including donations is around Rs 4.5 crore.
The trust earned the money from guest house rent, Prasad distribution, parking charges, ticket of light and sound show etc.
Somnath Temple is the first among the twelve Aadi Jyotirlingas of India. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is the chairman of Somnath Temple Trust.
The existing temple, considered to be the seventh one, is built in the Kailas Mahameru Prasad style and India’s first deputy Prime Minister Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel is its pioneer.
It is designed by Prabhashankar Sompura who is remembered as the architect of the present-day temple.
