Cricket South Africa (CSA) announced on Thursday a 14-member South Africa 'A' squad as they host India' A' in a four-day series later this month in Bloemfontein.

Proteas batter Pieter Malan will lead the SA 'A' side in the three-match series from 23 November to 9 December at Mangaung Oval.

Proteas all-rounder George Linde and fast bowler Lutho Sipamla are in the squad with Warriors fast bowler Marco Jansen and Knights batter Raynard van Tonder also included.

In June, SA 'A' coach Malibongwe Maketa and his side defeated Zimbabwe in a Covid-affected 4-day series in Harare, which saw South Africa lead 1-0 before Zimbabwe halted all sporting activity.

CSA Convenor of Selectors Victor Mpitsang stated that this India' A' tour is the perfect opportunity for these players to vie for a spot in the Proteas side with Virat Kohli's India touring this summer.

"Test cricket remains one of CSA's key focus areas, along with ensuring that the format continues to thrive and hold relevance in our country. It is therefore vital that a steady stream of talent continues to emerge from our high-performance programme," said Mpitsang in a press release.

"The Covid-19 pandemic saw the disruption of the South Africa A team's fixtures and CSA is pleased to see the return of content for this programme. We are looking forward to more tours for this team in particular, as the A Team programme is a crucial one to CSA's overall pipeline strategy.

"The senior South Africa and India teams will be clashing this summer here at home, so this is an ideal opportunity for players with Proteas ambitions to put their hands up and make a case for themselves.

"The Panel and I wish Pieter and coach Malibongwe Maketa everything of the best ahead of this very important series."

Mpitsang and Maketa have had to make significant changes to the SA 'A' squad as a new-look Proteas side take on the Netherlands in three ODIs starting from 26 November at Centurion.

Following the Netherlands, Mark Boucher's side will face India in three Tests, three ODIs and four T20Is over the festive season, with the first Test starting on 17 December at the Wanderers.
