GURUGRAM: A 28-year-old
Ullawas resident has been arrested for allegedly thrashing a
driver to death three days ago.
Police said they were consuming liquor together in an amla orchard in Sector 59 on November 7 and got into an argument, which turned violent.
The arrested man has been identified as Pradeep. According to police, a man’s body was discovered in the orchard by a passerby. The body had head injuries and was drenched in blood. The passerby alerted cops immediately, following which police and forensic teams were sent to the spot.
The man who died was later identified as Vipin Malik. Vipin was originally from Uttar Pradesh and was staying in a rented accommodation in Delhi’s Jaunpur. He had been working as a driver in Gurgaon’s Sector 60 for the past month.
In her complaint to police, Vipin’s wife stated that he had left for work around 9am on the day of the incident, driving to Gurgaon on his motorcycle. In the evening, he had called her over the phone and told her that he would be coming home soon. When he failed to return, she began calling him repeatedly on his phone, but it was switched off.
She was informed about the body’s discovery the following day around 3.10pm. She rushed to the spot with her brother and confirmed Vipin’s identity. An FIR was then registered under Section 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) at the Sector 65 police station. During the investigation, police zeroed in on Pradeep and arrested him on Tuesday.
“During questioning, he revealed that he and Vipin knew each other. On the night of the incident, they were consuming liquor together in the orchard. They got into an argument regarding some matter, which eventually turned violent. Pradeep broke a
branch from a nearby tree and thrashed Vipin to death with it. Pradeep then took Vipin’s wallet and mobile phone and fled on his motorcycle,” ACP (crime) Preet Pal Sangwan said.
Police said the tree branch used in the crime has been seized from Vipin, who was produced in court and sent to police custody on Wednesday.
