Ford Offers Mustang GT500’s 760-HP V8 As A Crate Engine For $26,000, Where Would You Use It?

It’s a golden era for crate engines. Following the release of Chevrolet’s ZZ632 10.4-liter behemoth that churns out 1,004 hp without any form of forced induction, and the news that the company won’t rule out selling the Z06’s flat-plane crank V8 as a crate engine in the future, the pricing for Ford’s 5.2-liter supercharged Predator V8 has now been revealed.

The 760 hp engine that powers the Mustang Shelby GT500 is available through Ford Performance with the part code M-6007-M52SC for the princely sum of $25,995.

With a dry weight of 536 lbs (243 kg), the engine displaces 5.2 liters and features an Eaton TVS R2650 supercharger. As a result, it produces 760 hp (770 PS/567 kW) and 625 lb-ft (847 Nm) of torque.

The block is made of aluminum with plasma transferred wire arc spray weld cylinder liners, a forged steel crankshaft and connecting rods, as well as Grafal coated forged aluminum pistons. The package also includes exhaust manifolds, an alternator, a starter, an A/C compressor, a 92 mm throttle body, a supercharger belt, and a water pump/alternator belt.

In the Mustang Shelby GT500, the Predator V8 is capable of some pretty impressive performance. Paired to a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission, the car can get to 60 mph (96 km/h) in just 3.3 seconds and up to 100 mph (161 km/h) in just 6.7 seconds. Tuners, meanwhile, have been able to pump the power output up to more than 1,000 hp (1,013 PS/745 kW) and 850 lb-ft (1,152 Nm) of torque.

The Predator is just one of a host of crate engines Ford offers, which also includes the 5.0-liter Coyote V8 and the 7.3-liter Godzilla V8, as well as the Eluminator electric crate motor, which produces 281 hp (285 PS/210 kW) and 318 lb-ft (431 Nm) of torque.
