How to Rest Scientists in 'Jurassic World Evolution 2' so They Don't Get Disgruntled

The scientists in Jurassic World Evolution 2 need to take regular breaks, lest they become overworked and disgruntled. This guide will teach you how to boost their morale, while simultaneously increasing efficiency in your park.

As the head of operations for a dinosaur zoo, you might think that your top priority is to ensure that your prehistoric exhibits don't break out of their enclosures and go on rampages. However, you have a much more frightening responsibility to keep on top of as well, that being people management.

Just like the animals, your employees have needs that must be attended to if you want them to continue performing well. It's a little easier to manage the temperament of an angry Spinosaurus though, as it just wants you to plant a few trees around its paddock and ensure that it has a steady supply of food.

The scientists on the other hand demand that you closely monitor their workloads and assign them periods of respite. You see, for all their Ph.D.s, it turns out that they are incapable of sleeping without express instructions from the executive board, which means that you have to actually order them to take time off.

No one will organize industrial action or anything if you are a tyrannical boss, but their productivity will eventually start to wane. As such, it behoves you to cut the team some slack every once in a while, so that they don't get burnt out.

Build a Staff Center

You will rely on your scientists for multiple different things in Jurassic World Evolution 2. They assist with expeditions, lead research for the development of new buildings and upgrades, and treat sick dinosaurs over in the medical lab.

With them having such broad job descriptions, they are among your most valuable team members, but this also means that they are harder to please than many of their colleagues. You don't really get any complaints from the rangers or the customer service workers in your parks, as they just get on with their assigned tasks.

Yet the scientists each have their own individual stress levels that you can fill (like particularly irritable Tamagotchis). You will see this represented as a bar next to their profiles when you are delegating work in the science center. When it gets too full, the employee in question will become disgruntled and their productivity will slip as a result.

To address this wellbeing issue, you will first need to construct a staff center. Not only does this building give the scientists somewhere to unwind from the stresses of the day, but it also increases your hiring capacity so that you can more evenly distribute workloads in the future.

As with all structures in Jurassic World Evolution 2, you will need to ensure that the staff center is fully powered (by placing it within close proximity of a generator) and that it is connected to the rest of the site via a path.

For it to be fully operational, you will also need to have a command center established somewhere in the park. You should already have one of these, as it is the facility that used to recruit scientists in the first place, but some campaign missions don't give you them at the start.

Order the Scientists to Take a Rest

Once you have got a staff center up and running, you might think that your HR woes are in the past. After all, the scientists finally have a place to put their feet up when they're not busy working on research projects.

However, if you just leave it there you will notice that the "unrest bar" doesn't budge an inch. This is because the scientists need to be explicitly told to take a break and won't just take the initiative when they have a spare minute.

To order your employees to rest, hover the cursor over your staff center and then press the interact button. Next, choose "view scientists."

From here, you will be presented with a list of every scientist in your organization. Find the individual that you want to give time off to and then press the corresponding "rest" button that is displayed in the bottom right-hand corner of the screen ("Y" for Xbox players and triangle for those on PlayStation).

The employee will then be unavailable for an allotted period of time while they get some much-needed R&R. You can accelerate this process by researching an efficiency upgrade for the staff center, but that obviously requires that a scientist is on hand to work on it.

Jurassic World Evolution 2 is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X and Xbox One. The original game was included in the weekly Epic Games Store giveaway earlier this year and is featured right now on Xbox Game Pass.
