Actor Kangana Ranaut, who often lands in a soup for her controversial remarks, was slammed by BJP MP Varun Gandhi on Thursday for saying India attained real freedom in 2014, when the Narendra Modi-led government came to power, referring to India’s Independence in 1947 as bheek or alms.
While criticizing Kangana’s remark, the BJP MP, a grandson of Indira Gandhi and great-grandson of Jawaharlal Nehru, in his tweet said sometimes the Thalaivi actor disrespects the sacrifice of Mahatma Gandhi, sometimes she pays respect to Gandhi’s killer, now she is disrespecting the sacrifices of millions of freedom fighters from Shaheed Mangal Pandey to Rani Laxmibai, Bhagat Singh, Chandrashekhar Azad, Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, among others. He added in his tweet that should he call this type of thinking madness or treason.

The Pilibhit MP also shared a 4-second clip of Ranaut on his official Twitter handle, where she made the remark. She said at the launch of new Hindi news channel that India achieved real freedom in 2014 when the Narendra Modi-led government came to power and not in 1947, which as mentioned above, was called bheek by her.
Seeing Varun Gandhi’s reaction over her remark, Ranaut, whose Twitter account got suspended, again hit back at him through her official Instagram handle. She posted a story where she said, even though she has clearly mentioned the 1857 revolution first freedom fight which was curbed, which lead to more atrocities and cruelties from the British and almost a century later freedom was given to people in Gandhi’s begging bowl, Ja aur roo ab (go cry more), she added in her Instagram story.
Actor Swara Bhasker also criticized Ranaut’s tweet and asked about the people who were heard clapping at Ranaut’s remark.
