Hyderabad: Six renowned scientists from the city-based LV Prasad Eye Institute (LVPEI) have been listed among the top researchers (lifetime achievers) in the world in a study conducted by Stanford University.
According to a press release here on Wednesday, the scientists who are part of the top researchers included Dr Gullapalli N Rao, founder and leading chair of eye health, Prof Dorairajan Balasubramanian, Emeritus Director, Prof Brien Holden Eye Research Center, Prof Savitri Sharma, Laborer Keeffe, Visiting Professor, Dr Shivaji Sisinthy, Emeritus Director, Prof Brien Holden Eye Research Center and Dr Prashant Garg, Executive Chairman of LVPEI.
Former LVPEI faculty including Dr Virender Sangwan, Dr Santosh Honavar, Dr Jay Chhablani, Dr Ravi Thomas and Dr Undurti N Das were also included in the list.
Senior researchers including Dr Gullapalli N Rao, Prof Balasubramanian, Dr Savitri Sharma, Prof Jill Keeffe and Dr Shivaji Sisinthy were also listed as the top 2 percent world scientists last year in a similar study first published by Stanford University.
Apart from that, Stanford University also conducted a study to generate the research impact of scientists in a single year in 2020. Nearly 12 LVPEI researchers, including the 6 lifelong achievers, were among the top 2020 eye researchers. lifelong achievers, the other scientists include Prof Mohammad Javed Ali, Dr Swathi Kaliki, Dr Taraprasad Das, Dr Rohit C Khanna, Dr Milind N Naik and Dr Sayan Basu.
“Research has been an integral part and LVPEI has more than 3600 publications on its roster. I congratulate everyone on the global eye researcher list,” said Dr Gullapalli N Rao. The database of top-cited scientists was created by a team of scientists at Stanford University, USA, and Elsevier BV, a Netherlands-based publishing house.
