Nandigram, Nov 10 (UNI) Paying tributes to 14 people, killed in police firing while protesting against
the forceful land acquisition by the then Left Front government for SEZ (Special Economic Zone) in 2007, Nandigram MLA and West Bengal Legislative Assembly Opposition leader Suvendu Adhikari
on Wednesday said, " We will never forget those who lost their lives for the Nandigram movement. "
Adhikari said, " Nandigram is not the name of a place, but a history which can never be forgotten. Nandigram is land for struggle, land for shelter, land for protection, land for faith. "
" We will never forget those who lost their lives for the Nandigram movement and those who
resisted the mighty Left Front regime's autocratic tactics that ultimately changed West Bengal's
political landscape, " he stated.
" Nandigram in the past fought against the evils and in future too it would stand for the good omen, " Adhikari said.
Adhikari also led a rally of the Bhumi Ucched Protirodh Committee at Nandigram to mark the 14th Saheed Dibas.
Before paying tribute, he asked his followers to clean the stambh with ganga water as the TMC leaders earlier today paid tributes to the slain people.
Trinamool Congress leader Kunal Ghosh slammed Adhikari, accusing him of giving "communal"
tone in politics, including that of Nandigram issue.
