APPEAL TO PUT TO AN END TO POLL RELATED VIOLENCE IN MANIPUR
Youth's Forum for Protection of Human Rights (YFPHR) is deeply concern with the recent development in connection with the upcoming General Election related violence which are being taking place since the last few months in different parts of Manipur.
The violence related to election could be observed since the mid of 2020 in Andro Assembly constituency and still prevailing till date which resulted in destruction of houses and injuring many innocent people.
The same could be observed in Heirok, Khangabok and Yairipok of Thoubal District wherein houses were destroys, civilians were physically assaulted, media persons were assaulted, gun fight and various other.
Such an act being committed by those who claimed to be the supporters of different candidates of different area are not abled to be booked and arrested according to the rule of law by the Government of Manipur knowing the fact that civilians are the victims and need protection.
Any actors insisting the violence are in need to be held accountable and punish according to the rule of law. As we cannot deny the fact that the state is responsible to protect the rights of its civilians who are victimized in such violence. However, it is truly a shame of the Government of Manipur to put an end to the violence which are being occurred in the state of Manipur.
It is therefore, appeal the Government of Manipur, Governor of Manipur, Manipur Human Rights Commission and the Department of Home to urgently intervene into the matter and direct the intending candidates of various constituency to immediately stop escalating the violence and stop harassing and injuring the civilians and respect the rule of law.
Lastly we appeal the general public to refrain from indulging into the violence and not to get carried away with violence mongering and insisting people just for mere benefits.
