Senapati, November 09 2021: The Research Cell of Asufii Christian Institute (ACI) organised the second Asufii Talk 'A Rendezvous with the Author' on Dr Veio Pou's debut novel 'Waiting for the Dust to Settle' on Tuesday.
The author walked through the realms of literary world as he recounted on the 'Cultural influence on North East Literature cum Waiting for the Dust to Settle'.
At the very outset, Dr Pou gave his appreciation on the 'Asufii Talk' series saying that it is a wonderful platform in a higher education institution like ACI and it could develop into something bigger.
Describing his work 'Waiting for the Dust to Settle' in three words 'Writing Community Memory', the writer said the novel is his subjective understanding of culture as literature from the North East is rooted in culture, which is based mainly on oral tradition.
The young novelist said that oral tradition without written documents could lose its value with time.
Through the novel the author brings back the memories of 'Operation Blue Bird' of 1987 .
The author also discussed his inspiration from "The Judgment that Never Came' by Nandita Haksar & Sebastian M Hongray.
Emphasizing on the importance of the three Key words 'Writing Community Memory', Dr Pou said that writing is another way of telling, the characters in the novel that embodied from the fringes of the society represent the Community and recording in writing is the memory that stays through posterity.
He encouraged the students to cultivate the habit of writing while maintaining that written documents become ambassadors to far off lands especially in a culture where oral tradition is losing lustre in the wave of modernity.
The 90-minute session was moderated by Research Cell convener Dr Ch Kaya while ACI vice principal K Athishu thanked Dr Pou for sparing his valuable time with students and faculty.
He also congratulated the Research Cell for organising the Asufii Talk Series which gives opportunities to students to meet and interact with intellectuals from different walks of life.
The vice principal also appreciated the students for actively participating in the session.
