Police seek help to corroborate Vic murder
Police are appealing for the public's help to corroborate several unconfirmed reports a man was murdered in a Victorian city in 2016.
The anonymous reports, received over the last two years, suggest an unknown male was murdered in the Ballarat region in early 2016, and his body disposed of.
Investigators from the missing persons squad have made countless inquiries and searched state and national databases but have been unable to identify any person whose disappearance matches the information provided.
They are now seeking assistance from the public in an effort to determine if the information provided is credible.
Detective Sergeant Maurice Ryan urged anyone with information on the possible murder, or a person from the region who has not been seen or heard from since 2016, to come forward.
"Though this is quite an unusual case, unfortunately it is not unheard of for somebody to go missing and never be reported," he said in a statement.
"There can be varying reasons for this, but when information like this is received it is our responsibility to ensure we investigate fully and do all we can to establish if there is any truth to the information."
