Charlotte’s biggest banks are closing branches. Do you still visit them?

Charlotte’s biggest banks are downsizing their branch networks.

Bank of America is closing three Charlotte-area branches, part of a pre-pandemic strategy to optimize its number of ATM and branch locations. Truist is closing 10 local BB&T and SunTrust branches as it prepares to fully convert to the new bank’s name and branding early next year.

And Wells Fargo is working to shutter hundreds of branches across the country, part of company-wide efforts to cut costs.

It might not make much of a difference for customers. These days you can deposit a check, make a transfer and even chat with a virtual banking assistant all from your smart phone.

Charlotte’s biggest banks — and new competitors — emphasize that the branch remains a core part of their business.
