A third person has died after a shooting Tuesday night in Scotland, the Division of Criminal Investigation said.

The Bon Homme County Sheriff's office responded to shots fired at a residence in the town of about 500 people northwest of Yankton on Tuesday night. Two people were found dead inside and a third died later, the DCI said in a tweet. Two other people were injured.

The DCI said the shooting was the result of a "domestic-related altercation." Witnesses said that they had heard arguing coming from the house in previous instances.

Francis D. Lange was arrested and charged after the shooting with three counts of first-degree murder, attempted murder and aggravated assault, according to court documents filed Wednesday morning. He currently has a $2 million cash bond.

"While this is still an ongoing investigation, there is no threat to the public or community," the DCI said.

Witness recounts shooting

Rachel Go Lightly, a resident in the neighborhood, was home at the time of the shooting and said she had heard popping going off across the street. She went to look and her husband told her to get down, that someone was shooting.

Go Lightly's mother said that her daughter and her husband had watched as Lange ran into the street.

"They're good people," Go Lightly's mother, who declined to give her name, said. "To have something like this happen is scary."
