New Delhi, November 8

The Supreme Court on Monday issued notice to the Centre on a petition seeking directions for effective implementation of the Protection of Women from the Domestic Violence Act, 2005, by creating adequate infrastructure, including shelter homes, across India and providing effective legal aid to women abused in matrimonial homes.

A Bench led by Justice UU Lalit asked the Ministry of Women and Child Development and Ministry of Information and Broadcasting to respond to the petition filed by an NGO — “We The Women of India” by December 6. The Bench said it wanted the Centre to monitor the issue. — TNS
