Peoria police investigate city's 28th homicide of 2021

PEORIA — The 28th homicide of 2021 in Peoria took place late Monday night, according to police.

About 10:30 p.m., officers were summoned to the 900 block of South Greenlawn Avenue in South Peoria. The ShotSpotter gunfire-detection system reported 12 rounds had been fired.

When officers arrived, they found a male body lying on the pavement at Greenlawn Avenue and West Ann Street, according to police spokeswoman Semone Roth. He had multiple apparent gunshot wounds.

Officers attempted life-saving measures and the victim was transported to a hospital, but he later was pronounced dead.

The Peoria County Coroner's Office was expected to reveal the victim's identity and the manner and cause of his death.

No suspect information was available, according to Roth. Police are investigating.
