Xfinity Outage Map: Comcast Users Report Problems Across the U.S.

Comcast/Xfinity users nationwide were experiencing trouble with their internet services on Tuesday morning, with users reporting problems in Chicago, New York, San Francisco and Washington, D.C.

As of Tuesday morning around 9:30 ET, there were more than 40,000 reports of outages on Down Detector, a website that monitors issues and outages. Some users reported they logged in to their accounts on the company's website and were informed of when the outage would be resolved.

Several people complained on Down Detector that the outage made it difficult for them to work. Other customers were reportedly informed the outage could last a few hours.

Newsweek reached out to Comcast for comment but did not receive a response in time for publication.

Insight PA Cyber Charter School, a full-time online public charter school in Pennsylvania, acknowledged that some people were experiencing outages with their internet service. The school was unsure how many teachers and students were affected or how long the outage would last.

Students who were able to access the internet were expected to log in to their scheduled classes but were told to complete coursework through the online school if their teacher was not present 15 minutes into the class.

Mitch Pugh, executive editor of the Chicago Tribune, likened the outage to a "snow day" for people who are working from home.

Comcast has a website where customers can check the status of their service and access a local outage map. However, some users who complained they were having problems with their services said that when they went to the Comcast website they were told there were no outages in their areas.

Comcast introduced Xfinity as the brand name for its internet, TV and phone services in 2010. It's the biggest cable internet provider in the United States and the most-used broadband provider in the country, according to U.S. News & World Report.

It had an estimated 27 million residential customers at the end of 2020, and its internet services are available in 39 states, U.S. News & World Report said.
