Odisha vigilance sleuths detect unaccounted assets worth crores from OPHWC Deputy Manager

Bhubaneswar, Nov 9 (UNI) The sleuths of Odisha Vigilance today detected unaccounted assets worth crores of rupees during raids on the properties of Odisha Police Housing and Welfare Corporation (OPHWC) Bhubaneswar Deputy Manager Pratap Kumar Samal.
As many as 10 teams of Odisha Vigilance led by one Additional SP, 5 DSPs and 7 Inspectors besides other staff are conducting searches at twelve locations on the strength of a search warrant issued by the Court of Special Judge, Bhubaneswar.
The searches were made on the allegations of possession of assets by Mr Samal disproportionate to the known sources of his income.
Vigilance sources said so far the search team has detected 25 immovable properties in the name of Mr Samal and his wife worth crores of rupees and Rs Rs 38,12,900 in cash.
The immovable properties included five plots and one building at Basudevpur in Bhadrak district, 17 plots and two buildings in Bhubaneswar and Khordha. The technical team of the Vigilance department is carrying out the valuation of the properties.
The valuation of his five-storied building at Gothapatna in Bhubaneswar in the name of his wife Sasmita Samal as per her declaration is Rs 3,89,60,000.
Mr Samal, a diploma holder in Civil Engineering had joined the Odisha Police Housing and Welfare Corporation in August 1988 as a Junior Engineer in Bhubaneswar.
He has also worked in Kendrapara and Deogarh.
On promotion to the rank of Deputy Manager in 2013, he worked at Rourkela, Bolangir, Keonjhar and Cuttack and later joined Bhubaneswar in 2019 and is continuing in that post.
