A crew member on Alec Baldwin's film Rust - a pipe rigger and lamp operator, according to People - Jason Miller, has been hospitalised after he was bitten by a brown recluse spider on set, per a GoFundMe page launched on his behalf.

"In a matter of days he experienced severe symptoms including necrosis of his arm and sepsis. He has been hospitalised and endured multiple surgeries each day as doctors do their best to stop the infection and try to save his arm from amputation," the page states.

The news comes following ongoing scrutiny of Baldwin and the film as an investigation continues into the fatal shooting that claimed the life of Halyna Hutchins last month.

The actor fired a gun on set, killing the cinematographer and injuring director Joel Souza.

On Monday he took to social media saying he believed film and TV productions should hire police officers to monitor weapons on set.

"Every film/TV set that uses guns, fake or otherwise, should have a police officer on set, hired by the production, to specifically monitor weapons safety," he shared on Twitter.
