Acting on media reports highlighting blatant sale of drugs in certain villages, Deputy Chief Minister Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa on Monday directed the Senior Superintendents of Police (SSPs) concerned to intervene in the matter and take strict action under the law, besides attaching the property of drug dealers.

He asked the SSPs to initiate disciplinary action against police officers who failed to take concrete action against drug smuggling and submit a report within three days.

The Deputy CM said he had taken stern note of the reports related to sale of drugs at Rauli and Vajidpur villages of Moga and Ferozepur districts, respectively.

Randhawa, who also holds the charge of the Home Department, said no laxity in dealing with drug-related cases would be tolerated and erring police officers would not be spared.

In view of the instructions given by the Deputy CM, the Principal Secretary (Home) has issued letters to the Moga and Ferozepur SSPs saying social media reports suggested drugs were being sold openly at the two villages and no concrete action was taken by the police.
