Ghaziabad: Girish Pal Tyagi, brother of BJP MLA Ajit Pal Tyagi, who had been absconding in his uncle Naresh Tyagi’s murder case, finally surrendered at a local court here on Monday after over a year.
Girish, who was surrounded by scores of lawyers, was sent to 14 days judicial custody after the chief judicial magistrate court rejected the bail application.
On October 9, 2020, two unidentified assailants had shot at Naresh, a government contractor and Ajitpal Tyagi’s uncle, while he was on his way to a park in Lohia Nagar.
In November 2020, the police had arrested four people, including Jeetendra Tyagi, who told police that the MLA’s brother Girish had got the uncle killed by hired shooters. Girish had been on the run since the incident.
The local court had fixed November 8 as the fourth and last chance to surrender.
Tyagi reached the court premises around 10.15 am and after about half an hour, an order was passed by the court to send him to jail rejecting his bail application.
After the medical examination at around 11.15 am, he was admitted to the district jail at 12 pm.
As the police had come to know about the surrender of Girish, large number of police personnel were deployed. However, the police did not arrest Girish.
Girish’s father Rajpal Tyagi is a former minister. Due to the high profile of the matter, PAC was also deployed in the court premises as a precaution.
During the surrender, Girish came face to face with Naresh Tyagi’s son Abhishek who alleged that the former’s relatives did not allow him to enter the court and issued threats to kill all the brothers.
He gave a complaint to the SSP and DM office and requested action against the accused’s relatives and also sought protection.
Abhishek’s counsel Manoj Nagwanshi said, “Abhishek in the complaint stated that Girish was absconding for more than a year in the murder of his father. On Monday morning, Girish surrendered in the court under the protection of his advocates. He reached the CJM court with his brother and advocate. There his advocates went to the court, but Girish’s brother-in-law, Babli Tyagi, son Mohit Tyagi using force did not allow them to enter the court. On protesting, the accused threatened to kill him and his brothers.”
