Noida: Gangajal supply in the city would be augmented significantly in the next three months. Noida Authority officials said that more than 70% work on building a new network through which 90 million litres of better quality Gangajal will reach the city on a daily basis has been already achieved. Over two dozen sectors, particularly the ones situated along the Noida-Greater Noida Expressway, will stand to benefit.
A facility where Gangajal will be stored and treated is being developed at the Siddhartha Vihar plant in Ghaziabad. At present, the city gets 240 million litres of Gangajal daily (mld). However, the water department has assessed that the demand has gone up and the present requirement hovers around 360 mld, officials said.
With the additional resource ready, the Authority will be able to mitigate the shortage to an extent as the supply will increase to 310 mld. The water will be diverted towards the sectors that have been developed in the recent years along the Noida-Greater Noida Expressway. And officials said at least 3.50-4 lakh people will derive benefits as two dozen sectors will be covered along the expressway by January next year.
Chief general manager of the authority, Rajiv Tyagi said that the facility in Ghaziabad is in the final stages of completion. “All the hurdles coming in the way of laying down the pipeline have been cleared. Work has been fast-tracked. We carried out a review of the work last week and realised that 71% work has been achieved,” he said.
The work to supply Gangajal in sectors 112, 116, 117, 120, 121, 122, 128, 130, 131, 143, 144, 151 among others was initiated in March 2018. However, the project missed several deadlines as bringing in the pipeline from Siddhartha Vihar got delayed.
“We faced difficulty in carrying out work near the Sector 62 metro station. Also Meerut Expressway work was on at the same time and a lot of changes and realignment of existing network of the water pipelines was required due to that. But now work has started again,” said an officer from the water and sewerage division of the Authority.
The overall cost of the project is estimated to be about Rs 304 crore, of which the Noida Authority has to shell out Rs 228 crore. The remaining amount will be borne by the UP housing and development board.
