Six college students held for ragging

Kannur, Nov 9 (UNI) Chakkarakkal police on Tuesday arrested six senior students of Nehar Arts and Science College in Kudukkimotta on the alleged charges of brutally assaulting a junior student besides indulging him in ragging.
P Anshad, a second year BA Economics student of the college and a native of Chekkikulam was allegedly ragged by a 15-member gang of students on November 5.
Police registered cases under various sections of IPC and Anti ragging Act against them.
According to police, they arrested six third-year undergraduate students from their houses this morning.
The arrested students were Mohammed Rashad, Muhammed Thammem, Abdul Khader, Mohammed Musammel, Mohammed Muhudhis and Mohammed Safwan.
When Anshad returned to the college after lunch, the accused students demanded cash and questioned Anshad for talking to the girls and brutally attacked him after taking him to the college toilet.
Following this, he fell unconscious for around five hours and later the college authorities took him to a hospital.
All the accused absconded after the incident. Efforts are on to nab the remaining accused students, police said.
