The incident happened at 8:10 am following which, four fire brigade vehicles were rushed to the spot. Out of the nine, seven people were sent to Sion hospital, while two refused hospitalisation.
In other news, the vigilance team of the NCB probing corruption allegations against agency official Sameer Wankhede on Monday recorded the statement of Prabhakar Sail, one of the panchas in the Cordelia drug bust case. Sail had later alleged that payoffs were discussed by another witness K P Gosavi to ‘help’ Aryan Khan, who had been detained by the NCB soon after the raid.
Meanwhile, the Maharashtra State Criminal Investigation Department on Monday arrested two inspectors of the state police in an extortion case in which former Mumbai police commissioner Param Bir Singh and five other police officials have been named.
In other news, soon after a fire at the district hospital in Bhandara claimed the lives of ten newborn babies in January, an audit committee of the Maharashtra government has put three key recommendations which includes appointing a professional fire officer in each facility, setting up in-house fire response teams, nominating a fire warden for each floor and every shift.
Meanwhile, the Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) in Maharashtra has said its employees who have not taken even one dose of vaccine against COVID-19 will not be paid salaries. The decision was taken on Monday during a meeting of senior TMC officials, including civic commissioner Dr Vipin Sharma and Thane Mayor Naresh Mhaske.
Mumbai on Monday reported 210 new coronavirus cases and five fresh fatalities, taking the infection tally to 7,57,910 and the death toll to 16,281, a civic official said. On the second day in a row, the financial capital has reported more than 200 Covid-19 cases. The city had logged 254 new Covid-19 cases and four fatalities on Sunday. The official said the city is left with 2,815 active Covid-19 cases after 317 patients were discharged from hospitals in the last 24 hours, taking the number of recoveries to 7,36,271.

With Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) employees unwilling to call off their strike, the state government on Monday granted permission to private buses, school buses and private company buses to operate as public transport vehicles and transport the passengers from MSRTC depots across the state. The notification will remain in effect until the employees call off the strike.

These were three key recommendations among 15 that were put together by an audit committee of the Maharashtra government soon after a fire at the district hospital in Bhandara claimed the lives of ten newborn babies in January. Since then, five major fires have been reported in the state’s hospitals with 45 more deaths but the government is yet to implement those recommendations.
AN OLD tugboat, Tru Grit, which was being towed to Darukhana ship breaking and had run aground off Raj Bhavan was floated at 11.30 pm on Sunday and was moved to deeper waters at 1.30 am on Monday. The tug is stuck off Raj Bhavan since the second week of September.

Mumbai Police on Monday went into a tizzy after receiving a call from a taxi driver who alleged that two 'suspicious-looking' men had asked him for directions to industrialist Mukesh Ambani's residence, Antilia.
The police are yet to register an offence. Azad Maidan police recorded the driver's statement till late Monday.
According to police officials, the taxi driver alleged that around 1 pm on Monday, while he was standing outside his taxi near Killa court in CST, two persons came to him. "The Wagon R car stopped after which one of them stepped out, walked towards him and asked him for directions to Antilia," said an officer.
Mass gatherings at seafronts in Mumbai will not be allowed for the forthcoming Chhath Puja festival in a bid to prevent the anticipated third wave of COVID-19 pandemic, the city civic body said.
As per the revised guidelines, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) will instead create artificial ponds in various regions of the city and bear the expenses for this work.
The Shiv Sena-controlled civic body, which is going to polls early next year, has asked the police department to ensure that there won't be mass gatherings at seafronts for Chhath Puja, performed mainly by the people from Bihar to propitiate the Sun god, which will be celebrated on November 10 and 11.

Despite home loan rates being at record lows and stamp duty cuts to encourage sales, 90 per cent of inventory in south central Mumbai, one of the biggest markets, remains unsold, a report said.
There are 10,700 housing units currently available for sale in this region, which was formerly the mill land and hence created huge opportunities for development, the report by Anarock Group, a real estate consultancy firm, said.
Of the total available stock, maximum 29 per cent availability is in homes sized 1,500-2,000 sq. ft. carpet area, followed by 23 per cent each in sizes 1,000-1,500 sq. ft. and 2,000-3,000 sq. ft, the report said. Bigger properties sized 3,000-4,000 sq. ft and over 4,000 sq. ft. area have least available stock of 5 per cent and 2 per cent, respectively, it said.
Approximately 25,660 units have been launched between 2013 till Q3 2021 in South-Central micro-markets including Worli, Prabhadevi, Mahalaxmi, Tardeo and Lower Parel, it said. (PTI)
Police have arrested a 25-year-old man in the murder case of a 28-year-old newlywed woman, whose body was found at her husband’s residence in Virar. The police said the murder took place as the woman broke up with the accused and married another person. Priya Kamble was found dead on Saturday morning. An 18-year-old man was arrested last week by the Panvel police in Navi Mumbai for allegedly killing his 19-year-old friend over a mobile phone and a speaker worth Rs 6,000.
The accused has been identified as Aaditya Shekate, who took the victim who is said to be a specially challenged to an under-construction building’s terrace in Panvel. After robbing the mobile phone and speaker, the accused pushed the victim from the terrace. Police said that the incident took place on Wednesday, around 9:45 pm when Shekate took the victim to the terrace of the seven storeyed building and pushed him from there. Read More

The driver and cleaner of a tempo were killed in a crash on Sunday near Kalwa area on the Mumbai-Nashik Highway in Thane. The deceased were identified as Salman Khan, 34, and Feroz Khan, 32. According to officials, the incident took place around 5.40 am near Kharegaon naka in Kalwa when a tempo heading towards Thane from Nashik rammed into a container from behind. The tempo was carrying chickens, and the front side of the vehicle was crushed. The container driver also sustained injuries in the crash. (ENS)
The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has decided to extend the Eastern Freeway from the Shivaji Nagar end to Ghatkopar signal via an elevated road travelling through Kamraj Nagar and Ramabai Colony. MMRDA officials said the road from Shivaji Nagar was to be extended till Ghatkopar, but was deferred as it would have meant destruction of mangroves. The MMRDA has now decided to restart the project. The MMRDA is also contemplating a plan proposed by Minister for Urban Development and MMRDA chairperson Eknath Shinde to have an elevated road from Ghatkopar to Thane in view of the increasing traffic. A 42-year-old woman was cheated of Rs 6.25 lakh by a cyber fraudster who posed as an Indian Navy captain on a Marathi matrimonial website. The complainant told the police that she ended up sending all her savings and even mortgaged her mother and sister’s gold ornaments to pay the accused. The first weekend after it reopened, Byculla zoo recorded a footfall of over 23,000 visitors. The total revenue collected in the two days was Rs 9.27 lakh.
On Sunday alone, 13,092 visitors came to the zoo, which opened its doors on November 1 after being shut for eight months following the second wave of Covid-19. The number of visitors was comparable to pre-Covid times, when on weekends crowds went up to 15,000. On the first day, 1,621 people visited the zoo and the revenue collected was Rs 68,725. The usual number of visitors on weekdays in pre-Covid times was 5,000-6,000 persons. Read More
