The DA is expected to announce its deputy mayor candidate in uMngeni Municipality on Monday.
Residents in uMngeni are waiting in anticipation for the new deputy mayor, hoping that he or she will be a committed individual.
There has been rumours that the former deputy mayor of uMngeni, Nompumelelo Buthelezi, jumped from the ANC to the DA for a top position in the party.
Buthelezi handed her resignation letter to the ANC a week before the municipal elections. She was introduced as a member of the DA on the eve of election day, which was shocking to many.
Buthelezi said she resigned following death threats and unfair treatment by the ANC in her former branch.
She also said the projects which she was passionate about, such as to uplift the community, were not supported by the ANC. She said she hopes the DA would ensure the community is assisted through her projects.
The DA made a historic victory last week by becoming the first municipality in KwaZulu-Natal to be led by the party.
The DA won uMngeni with 47% and 13 seats in council.
