Imphal, November 07 2021: While refuting the statements given by Lilong Chingkham Maya Development Organisation (LCMDO) secretary Md Aslam Khan about Chingkham Ching, which were published in some local papers on November 4, as baseless and unfounded, Chingkham Pei (Thoubei) denounced such statements as uncivilized.
In a release, Chingkham Kabui Village Khunbu G Meiphulung alleged that LCMDO members have been causing troubles and trying to create commotion among the Kabui community residing at Chingkham Ching since 2012.The organisation and followers of Md Aslam have been spreading misinformation that Chingkham Ching is a Khas land and Muslims have the authority over the said land, he added.
Pointing out that Kabuis have been residing at Chingkham Ching for more than 300 years and the place is known as Chingkham Kabui khul,.he said that village chief and Kabui ancestors have been the authority of the hillock.
In 1908 Manipur State Durbar ordered that the area within Kalekhongna (north), Chingjao and Ningthikhongna (south), Burma Road (East) and Turel Ahanbi (West) are for Kabui and it cannot be given to anyone.
It was again reaffirmed by Manipur Maharaj in 1919.Making it clear that the order of Chief Commissioner did not mention that the Kabuis are not the authority of Chingkham Ching and also did not include the land as Khas land, Meiphulung rejected Md Aslam Khan's claims as baseless.
He recalled that an order issued by SADAR Hills (Mao-West), Kangpokpi sub divisional officer in 1970 demarcated the hillock for Kabuis in Chingkham.
Later, Chingkham Kabui Khul village chief applied to director of settlement and land records during the survey conducted in 1995 and registered the hillock as patta land and included Khunbu, Khullakpa and Kabuis as owner of the hillock.
Stating that state government has informed about setting up a police outpost in Lilong Chingkham area, he recounted that the Kabuis donated an acre of land to the government for the welfare of the people.
Moreover, the Kabuis never construct houses on roads.
Md Aslam and his followers are trying to take over the land by changing some land of the hillock as roads and spreading lies about construction of houses on roads, he clarified.
Alleging that LCMDO has been threatening the people frequently to grab the land forcefully, he urged all concerned not to believe the lies spread by LCMDO and further appealed to all concerned to look into the matter.
